Menopause the Black Experience

Menopause discussions are happening but aren't culturally diverse. Add in the barriers to healthcare for Black women and we have a problem.
An event from Black All Year

During International Women's Day we rightly celebrate all the achievements of women we also need to recognise that not all women have equity of experience or exposure.

This is one of the reasons for hosting Black All Year - Menopause, the Black Experience next week with Anita Powell. We need to address the lack of Black representation and conversation in the menopause field - after all Black women have the menopause too.

Global Disability Summit 2022

The COVID-19 pandemic has renewed urgency and focus on issues surrounding inclusive data, triggering calls for action around the world. This February, the 2022 Global Disability Summit is an opportunity to reflect on and share progress toward more inclusive data. It's also our chance to advocate for better data to reflect the priorities of persons with disabilities, who have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.

The Inclusive Data Charter is calling for new and renewed commitments to building disability-inclusive data systems. At a Global Disability Summit side event on February 16th, country partners and advocates will share lessons learned since the Inclusive Data Charter launched in 2018.

Menopause and Neurodiversity

This event is now fully booked!

This event is open to all, its the first of series of Peer Support events where we would like to knoe what you need from such a group.
This event is about sharing our experiences rather than giving menopause expertise, though with experienced hosts of menopause chat forums forums on the call, we can help signpost you if needed.

More and more we are hearing about late diagnosis of ADHD and Autism around the time of menopause and the challenges this collision can bring for some. For others who may be aware of their neurodiversity then menoapuse if not expected, can bring new challenges.

Autism and ADHD related difficulties (including sensory sensitivity, socializing with others, communicating needs, focus, concentration issues) are reported to worsen during the menopause (1) and for some the wheels come off completely, we can feel derailed and maybe peer support and conversation is helpful.

There is little support information out there about the impact of menopause on neurodiversity, and even less places to talk about this if it's something you're experiencing, or maybe just recognising and realising in yourself for the first time. So a few of us at the Global Menopause Inclusion Collective, who identify this issue have decided to create a space to chat about this over a Sunday morning coffee!

If the impact of menopause / neurodivergence / neurodiversity resonates with you, then register to join us for a friendly and informal chat about your route to diagnosis, where do you go for information and support, how has menopause impacted you. Lets share tips and hints, talk about what support we need, and how we can shape these conversations on a more regular basis!

IMPORTANT reminder - this is a peer support group, no diagnosis or medical advice will be given at this session.

We welcome people from all backgrounds and identities to join us.

Look forward to meeting you!

Global Summit for Dignified Menopause

Global Summit for Dignified Menopause

Global Summit for Dignified Menopause

Menopause will directly affect approximately 50% of the world population. Furthermore, it will indirectly impact a much higher proportion, and yet, many are totally unaware of the signs and symptoms, let alone the potential solutions.

Goal: Ensure dignity throughout the full life cycle of menstruators as a human right, and for justice and equality.

The Menopause Inclusion Collective has come together with the Radha Paudel Foundation and the Global South Coalition for Dignified Menstruation to deliver an event that highlights the global diversity of menopause experiences and perspectives, across the themes of the summit;

Themes:

1. Dignified Menstruation = Dignified Menopause.

2. Menopause in the home, and in the workplace.

3. Menopause and education.

4. Menopause and the media. A help or a hindrance?

GSCDM (Global South Coalition for Dignified Menstruation[1]) defined that the ``State free from any forms of menstrual discrimination including stigma, taboos, abuse, violence associated with menstruation throughout the life cycle of menstruators’’ is called dignified menstruation.
